Media Statement: PCT Responds to Container Incident of 7th July at Piraeus

On Monday, 7 July 2026, at 18:55 local time, Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) responded to an incident involving smoke emanating from a transshipment container aboard a vessel  berthed at the Terminal.

Upon being notified, PCT immediately activated its Emergency Response Plan, implementing all prescribed safety protocols in close coordination with the Hellenic Fire Service and the competent port authorities. As a precautionary measure, operations in the affected area were temporarily suspended. The container was subsequently transferred to a designated isolated area, in accordance with the instructions of the competent authorities, to facilitate firefighting operations and thorough inspections.

The incident was managed safely and brought fully under control. No injuries were reported, no environmental pollution occurred, and no damage was sustained to the terminal's infrastructure or equipment. Following the completion of all necessary safety checks, normal terminal operations have fully resumed.

PCT remains at the full disposal of the competent Authorities, providing all necessary assistance to support their ongoing investigation and implementing any further guidance they may deem appropriate.
